Sometimes cinder worms can be seen in the stomach of a redfish when fileting them during peak cinder worm season. Not very appetizing, but proof that the fish love this type of worm. Another great type of worm used for saltwater fishing is the bloodworm. Bloodworms can be found in shallow saltwater areas. You have to be careful when using bloodworms because these worms actually have teeth, and they are not afraid to use them. Keep that in mind when baiting your hook with these guys. Bloodworms are named from their blood-red color. Their color is actually one of the reasons fish are so attracted to them. A bright red worm is much easier for the fish to spot in the water. Live blood worms are even better! The next type of worm great for saltwater fishing is the clam worm. These worms look kind of freaky at first glance. They very much resemble a millipede because of their two types of setae. Clam worms can actually bite just like the blood worm, so watch out once again! They can also be found in shallow marine water. Lots of species are attracted to clam worms. Here are a few: flounder, sea trout, porgy, whiting, striped bass, croakers, rockfish, and perch. The palolo worm is another great choice of sea worm to use when ocean fishing. The palolo worm is red like the bloodworm but has a tan head. Tarpon is one of the fish that are highly attracted to the palolo worm. These are just a few of the different types of sea worms that could be used for saltwater fishing. Again, you could use regular earthworms, but I would highly recommend going for one of these three choices of sea worms depending on what area you are wanting to reel one in.
